"This is Your BioSuit" was a casual, collaborative collage workshop hosted at Lumiere 2025 in Sydney, NS. Visitors were invited to join artist Melanie Barnett in the creation of a life sized “BioSuit”: a piece of protective clothing made from a living ecosystem. Images of local plants, fungi, and lichen that were taken by Barnett while in Mi’kma’ki were available for participants to cut, alter, draw on, and paste onto a life-sized outline of a person wearing a BioSuit.

Through this project, participants became collaborators and active members of this ongoing worldbuilding project. While they collaged these organisms together to build a BioSuit, participants were asked to think about what it might feel like to wear an ecosystem, or what a BioSuit might smell like. The resulting collage of a BioSuit was made by people using images of organisms who also call this land home.

Note that this project was interacted with by participants of all ages.
